4 Reasons Not To Delay Fixing Your Roof

Posted on

When it comes to fixing your roof, if you notice that you have damaged shingles or flashing, you will want to get your roof fixed right away. Delaying fixing your roof when you know it is damaged can have serious consequences.

Reason #1: Worsened Damaged

When you don't fix an obvious issue with your roof, the damage isn't going to go away. In fact, with roof damage, things usually only get worse over time.

For example, if you have cracked shingles that you don't replace, eventually, the water will get under those cracked shingles, and you will have to deal with water damage. Or if you have water damage and ignore that water damage, it will only worsen and be more expensive to deal with.

Waiting to fix the damage is only going to increase the damage and is going to result in a more expensive repair.

Reason #2: Increased Energy Bills

If you have damage to your roof, you are going to experience increased energy bills. A damaged roof will have leaks in it that will allow heat to escape. All that warm air will escape through the top of your home by allowing heat to escape in the winter. If it is summertime, your air conditioner will have to work harder to cool your home. You will have to pay more to heat your home if you don't fix the damage to your roof.

Reason #3: Potential for Mold

Next, if you have damage to your roof, there is a high chance that water will get through your roof. When water breaches your roof, you are going to be in trouble. Water damage can lead to mold growth. Mold growth can be tricky and expensive to deal with and should be avoided at all costs. Mold can easily spread out of control if you allow a leak to grow.

Reason #4: Pest Access

Finally, if you leave your roof damaged and don't repair it right away, a pest could easily access your home. Anything from mice to squirrels to insects can get into your roof when there are holes or gaps in your roof. You don't want to have to deal with getting rid of pests because you didn't take the time to fix up your roof.

Avoiding repairing damage to your roof can have a host of consequences, all of which are going to cost you more money in the end. The damage can worsen, your energy bills may increase, mold can grow, and pests may get into your home. If you have visible damage to your roof, a certified roofer can fix your roof.
